SNOHOMISH
YOUTH SOCCER SCORES AGAIN
The
signing of Dave Chesler as Technical Director for SYSC is just another
bold play to put SYSC in the forefront of youth soccer not only in
Washington but the
nation.
Dave comes to
Snohomish as a past player and resident of the
Pacific Northwest
along with his wonderful wife Rebecca while his son Ryan remains an
accomplished student at
Boise State University.
Dave Chesler took
over as
head coach of the U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team at the
beginning of 2009, and will work closely with U.S. Under-20 Women’s
National Team head coach Jillian Ellis to prepare this group of players
for the 2010
FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Chesler, who holds a
U.S. Soccer “A” Coaching License, has been a U.S. Soccer National Staff
Instructor since 1996 A, B and C licenses. From 1997-2004, Chesler was
the head men’s soccer coach at Fresno State University. During the end
of his run in Fresno, he also served as the Director of Coaching &
Player Development for the
Central Valley
Soccer Academy. Prior to coming to Fresno, Chesler was an
assistant men’s soccer coach at the
University of Washington
from 1991-1997. For 17 years, from 1981-1998, he coached in the Region
IV Olympic Development Program, serving eight years as head coach for
the Washington State boys’ teams and eight years a head boys regional
coach for the U-14 through U-18 teams. From 1989-1996, he was the
Director of Coaching for the Northshore Youth Soccer and Washington S.C.
A former teacher,
Chesler taught high school honors chemistry and physics from 1981-1992
while also coaching boys varsity soccer. He also coached two years of
junior college soccer
at
Bellevue Community College in 1985-86. Chesler graduated from
the University of
Washington with a B.S. in
Forest Management.
He played two years of varsity soccer for the Huskies, making
all-conference both years, after transferring from the
University of Maryland, where he played his freshman and
sophomore seasons.
Snohomish Youth Soccer strives to bring the youth players opportunity
and growth, the hope of reaching their dreams not only in soccer but
beyond. We feel the addition of Dave Chesler continues to reinforce
that and sets the bar at an all time high. The leadership, knowledge
and resources he brings on an already strong foundation makes SYSC a
leader in Youth Soccer.
Snohomish Youth Soccer Club is
please to announce Dave as a new member of our team and look forward to
our mutual success on and off the pitch.

Snohomish Girls U-15
“Chika Lobos” Wins Arizona Pro's Elite Thanksgiving Tournament. (Report
by Coach Fenster)
Day #1 it was 80 degree's, 11am and on
a field foreign to us. We were playing a new team with a big name Sereno
Blue from Arizona. The girls started off strong and only got stronger as
the game progressed. The game ended 3-1 for Snohomish and could have
been a bigger score in our favor. In our second game that day we played
Arizona Rush who in the state playoffs lost to the eventual winners
Sereno White, therefore we knew it would be a tough game. Again all the
nerves of a new surface, tight calling ref's and a new team shivered us
for a moment and they got a goal early in the first half. But again like
the first game it only helped us remember what we were there to do, win,
which we did 4-1.

Day #2 - 8am kick off brought us Sereno
White 96 a year younger than us, but a perennial power house in Arizona
and currently ranked 5th in the country. Snohomish had the early run of
play, in fact I can remember thinking they must have a few missing
players but no, it just took them a minute to wake up. They scored 2 and
there was no answer from us. The game ended and we knew playing them
again would be on our list of things to do before we hopped on that
plane again. The second game that day the Semi Finals was late that same
night under the lights and under the stars. Perfect situation for a
game. We were playing the CCV Stars a good team in our own age group
from Arizona. Winning this game would put us into the finals and most
likely against the Sereno White. Our motivation was at an all time high.
We started and finished the game strong beating CCV Stars 2-0.
Day #3 - Sunday brought us to the
finals against Sereno White. This time Sereno White came out much
different and caught us on our heels. We couldn't seem to get at our own
half. The first 15 minutes they pounded on our door but were unable to
pry it open. Then we started to play, remembering what they did to us
just the day before. At the half it was 0-0 They scored first and we
answered back 1-1. It couldn't be anymore of a final than if we had
charged for admission. Each team fought cleat and head looking to finish
the other. Many close calls put the fans to the edge of their seats and
others to their feet. The final whistle blew and we went into overtime
No sudden death but it wouldn't matter, no team could put it in the
goal, I'm not sure if the players from either team had it in them, the
sweat showing their fatigue. And so to penalty's where it came down to
maturity in front of the goal. Back and forth the kicks went until
finally our keeper made a save. We needed to answer and did. It came
down to the final kicker in a situation that mathematically read 4-3
Snohomish. Sereno needed the kick to stay alive...........wide right!
Snohomish wins.
